WhatsApp decided to completely change the functionality with greater use

As you know, once a WhatsApp message is deleted, it cannot be recovered directly from the application. Instead, a message that reads “You have deleted this message” or “This message has been deleted” is displayed, as this feature has been implemented at the request of users.

However, in Android there is an option that allows us to see the content of deleted messages. This is the notification history found on most current phones. To access this function we must go to the settings of the phone, then go to the Notifications section and select Notification history.

It is important to note that this feature does not include all phone models, as it depends on the layer of customization that each manufacturer implements on Android. For devices that do not have this option, we will provide a valid alternative later.

If you can’t find the option on your phone, we recommend using the search bar usually located at the top of the Settings menu. For example, in the Realme UI interface, the path would be Settings > Notifications and status bar > More settings > Notification history.

It is important to note that this function must be activated to recover deleted messages. It does not work retroactively, so if the notification history is turned off, previously deleted messages cannot be recovered.

If you have an older phone that doesn’t have this notification history feature, there is still hope. In this case, you can use an alternative app that performs a similar function: allowing you to read deleted messages, as long as the app is pre-installed.

We are talking about WAMR, which is a free app available on the Google Play Store. When you launch the app, you will be guided through a simple tutorial where you will need to grant permissions to access notifications (otherwise the app will not be able to read WhatsApp messages). Then, you will be able to select the apps you want to monitor, and choose the green icon that will look familiar to you.

Once the app is up and running properly, you can forget about it until some contact messages are sent to you and then you decide to delete them. At that time, you can open WAMR and check the history of all messages, along with their corresponding content.

This way, you can easily find out what your friends or loved ones want to tell you, even if they change their minds and delete the messages later. Both the notification history and the WAMR app are powerful tools that are used on this occasion to recover deleted messages on WhatsApp.
