Cuba beats Canada in Norcia beach volleyball

Havana. – Cubans Noslyn Diaz and Jorge Luis Alayo faced no setbacks to defeat Canadians Martin Licht and Stephen Abrams in identical sets of 21-12 at the Norceca U-23 Beach Volleyball Championships in Punta Cana 2023.

Diaz and Allayo will crown Dominicans Angel Gil and George Wilmore on Saturday, who lost to the Northerners themselves 7-21, 16-21.

The top two places in each of the four groups will advance to the quarter-finals, so the Cubans and Canadians already have room for that round.

Saturday will start by completing the remaining challenges in all keys and in both genders. In the afternoon the quarter-finals will be played and Sunday will be the date for the semi-finals and medals debate.

The U-23 competition is unprecedented in Norceca beach volleyball competitions and will award ranking points as part of the ranking system for international events in this category.

Also in the arenas of Punta Cana, the qualifying tournament for the World Championships will take place from June 6 to 9, with a stage in Tlaxcala from October 6 to 15. Norceca’s website has announced that the Pre-World Championship will award four slots to each gender.

Cuba will be present with Diaz and Alayo, as well as Yenifer Rivera and Amanda Armenteros, along with 12 other countries that have confirmed their presence next week: Canada, the Cayman Islands, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Jamaica, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, the United States, the US Virgin Islands, and Saint Lucia.
