“We are ready for any emergency, but we do not have such plans at the moment,” Stepanov said.

Earlier, a Canadian journalist with experience working with CNN and CBS tweeted that Russia was preparing to evacuate its embassy.

Ambassador Stepanov previously admitted that the Russian delegates in Canada these days are working in a tense environment. Some activists from the Ukrainian community protesting the Russian military operation in Ukraine, he said, are behaving aggressively and trying to damage property and people.

Canada has the third largest Ukrainian community in the world, after Ukraine and Russia. According to the 2016 census, there were more than 1.35 million Canadians of Ukrainian descent, or 3.8% of the country’s total population.
