The age of the universe is in doubt after the discovery of the farthest black hole ever recorded by science

All theories have always told us that the universe is about 13.8 billion years old. However, recent discoveries of galaxies near this region are large enough to say that they originated much longer ago.

The recent discovery of a black hole, the most distant black hole ever discovered in the history of science, fuels myths about the age of the observable universe.

The black hole discovered by the James Webb Space Telescope is located in a galaxy called GN-z11, discovered by Hubble. When this star cluster was found, scientists were surprised because the amount of light it contained was unimaginable for its age: barely 400 million years.

Now they associate this luminosity with the black hole. Although it is known that these phenomena do not emit light, they say that what resides around them is the enormous amount of brightness that Hubble discovered approximately 8 years ago.

Therefore, although this would show that the universe is still 13.8 billion years old, until proven otherwise, the size of the black hole calls into question the origin of these massive phenomena. For one of these stellar events to have these dimensions, it is almost impossible for the universe to be very young at the time.

“This black hole is devouring the equivalent of an entire sun every five years. It's actually much higher than we thought might be possible for these black holes,” said Roberto Maiolino, an astrophysicist at the University of Cambridge. .

“Basically, it is not possible for such a massive black hole to grow so quickly and at such an early stage in the universe. In essence, according to classical theories, there is not enough time. That is why alternative scenarios must be resorted to.”
