It is a documentary showing the work of the Gorgas Memorial Institute for Health Studies (ICGES), which was created to recognize the admirable role of the dedicated team for scientific research, particularly in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the National Secretariat for Science, Technology and Innovation (Senacyt), it is an “audiovisual production that pays tribute to all staff of the Gorgas Memorial Institute of Health Studies.”

According to sources from the institute, the ICGES has a mission to “lead and promote scientific research in the field of health, as a reference in public health and to contribute to teaching for the benefit of the population.”

The documentary about workers on the front lines of the pandemic was a co-production between Senacyt, the Ciudad del Saber Foundation and the State Radio and Television System (SERTV).

In the premiere, Dr. Eduardo Ortega Parrilla, Secretary of the Senate, highlighted the work of scientists for their contribution to the health crisis and urged them to continue to advance science.

On the other hand, Gisele Gonzalez Filaret, Director General of SERTV, said: “Showing all the scientists in this pandemic is something that honors us and continues our goal of service.”

For his part, Dr. Juan Miguel Pascal, Director of the International Center for Disease Prevention (ICGES), said: “Panama has a tremendous potential to become a supplier of vaccines.” In addition, he expressed his gratitude by saying: “I would like to thank Panama for its belief in our institution. We will continue to serve Panama.”

In this sense, Irene Perorina, Executive Vice President of the Ciudad del Saber Foundation, highlighted the role of science in recent years, and in the end said: “We are coming together to find solutions, through science.”
