Chile imposes a curfew on the communities of Valparaiso and Marga Marga due to forest fires

(CNN in Spanish) — Chilean President Gabriel Boric has decreed a state of constitutional exception for the provinces of Marga Marga and Valparaiso due to forest fires, the presidential delegate of the Valparaiso region, Sofía González Cortés, reported on Saturday.

The official added that a curfew was also imposed between 08:00 a.m. (local time) and midday in the municipalities of Limache, Villa Alemana, Quilboy and Viña del Mar for the purpose of facilitating the deployment of logistical and emergency means.

The National Disaster Prevention and Response Service (Senapred) reported on Friday that a red alert had been declared in Valparaíso and Marga Marga due to three forest fires that had up to that point affected a total of about 565 hectares.

The most extensive fire to date, according to Friday's report, is the one developing in the Las Tablas complex and Lago Peñuelas Reserve, in Valparaiso, where 480 hectares have been affected. Senapred noted In a newsletter.

The other two fires broke out in Lo Moscoso, in the municipalities of Quilpe and Villa Alemana, where 80 hectares were affected, and on the Dos Lucas road, also in Valparaiso, damage amounted to 5 hectares.

Due to this situation, orders have been issued to evacuate some sectors of the municipality of Villa Alemana, Sinapred reported.

CNN was unable to determine whether the fires left injuries or deaths.
