16 Poseidons approved for sale to Canada – Avion Revue Internacional

On June 27, the US government approved a potential military sale to the Government of Canada of P-8A aircraft and related equipment at an estimated cost of $5.9 billion.

Previously, the Government of Canada had ordered up to sixteen P-8A Maritime Patrol Aircraft; up to twenty-six multifunctional information distribution systems Joint Tactical Radio System 5 (MIDS JTRS 5); up to thirty-eight integrated global positioning system (GPS)/inertial navigation (EGI) systems for the LN-251; up to twenty-five replacement Large Aircraft Infrared Countermeasures System Processors (LAIRCM) for the AN/AAQ-24(V)N (LSPR) with Integrated GPS Receiver (EGR) integrated with SAASM; and up to twenty-two Guardian Laser Transmitter Kits (GLTA) for the AN/AAQ-24(V)N.

Also includes commercial engines; the Tactical Open Mission Program (TOMS); MX-20HD Electro-optical (EO) and Infrared (IR); AN / AAQ-2 audio system; AN/APY-10 radar; AN/ALQ-240 Electronic Support Measures; NexGen missile warning sensors; AN/ARC-210 RT-2036 Radios (C); Among other equipment.

“This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security goals of the United States by helping to strengthen the military capability of Canada, a NATO ally that is an important force in ensuring political stability and economic progress, and a contributor to the military, peacekeeping and humanitarian operations in Worldwide,” which adds, “The proposed sale will increase the Canadian Navy’s interoperability with U.S. and other allied forces, as well as its ability to contribute to missions of mutual interest.
