UNLaM represents a milestone in sports medicine worldwide at the university level

Dr. Patricia Gomez, traumatologist and member of the medical staff of the Sports Area of the National University of La Matanza (UNLaM), will be part of the Medical Committee of the International University Sports Federation (FISU).

The various committees were formed in Lausanne, Switzerland, during the first meeting of the IFRC Executive Committee. There, five representatives of the Argentine University Athletic Federation (FeDUA) were selected in recognition of their careers and the work they have done in the region.

The importance of medical devices for athletes

Upon learning of his election, Gomez expressed his excitement at representing FeDUA internationally. In addition, he highlighted the importance of this achievement not only in the sports field, but also in the medical field. Furthermore, he pointed out that “this is a big advance for Argentina and the FFA,” revealing that “this is the first time that there is a representative of Argentina.”

He then expressed his enthusiasm for starting work, and stressed the importance of all sports being supervised by a medical team because it “helps improve the sports performance of all athletes.” In this sense, he explained, “the idea in these high-performance sports is to bring that athlete to his or her full potential.”

In this regard, he stressed that “the medical participation of the health team, within any athlete, is 100 percent necessary to raise the level of his athletic performance without creating any risk to life or injury.”
