We celebrate a historic event at the University of Mendoza: medical students from the San Rafael Campus finish the clinical rotation and prepare for the mandatory final practice (PFO), setting a precedent in regional medical education.
The University of Mendoza, San Rafael Campus, is proud to announce that a group of medical students have successfully completed the final subject of their clinical course. This remarkable achievement occurred between Thursday and Friday of last week, marking an important moment for both the students and the institution.
In February 2024, these students will begin Compulsory Final Practice (PFO), the last step before obtaining a medical degree. This 11-month process includes training courses in various specialties such as clinical medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology and surgery at Teodoro G. Shestakov Hospital, as well as experiences in regional and municipal health centres, with an emphasis on primary medical care.
A notable aspect of this group is that eight of the students were able to study all the subjects in a period of five years, and maintained their academic pace in an exceptional manner. Furthermore, the inclusion of two students from Malargüe and General Alvear highlights the scope and influence of the university across the Southern Regional region.
This event marks a historic milestone for the San Rafael campus, as these students constitute the first class to fully complete their medical degree on this campus. Implementing the PFO in San Rafael, with local professors, underscores the university's commitment to high-quality medical training and its connection to the community.
The PFO will be accepted every two months during the 2024 academic year and is designed so that students who finish taking all classes can begin classes immediately.
The students who were the champions of this achievement are: Valentina Arroyo, Tiziana Ciaccio, Yessica Cresbello, Ana Femenia, Eric Gerez, Juan Pagano, Florencia Ruti, and Pilar Zabalegi.
