Scholarships in the United States for Professional Colombians

The United States has opened an invitation to Colombian professionals to access advanced studies at graduate, master’s and doctoral degrees at some of the best universities in this country. Documents for applying and filling in the required forms will be open until May 12. Scholarships will be funded by the Columbia Fulbright Commission, subject to criteria of academic performance, achievements obtained in an undergraduate course, and social and work commitment.

Diana Basto Castro, Executive Director of the Program, stated: “We are looking for agents of change who want to change their lives and the lives of their communities, and who are distinguished by their high social commitment. We want to unite efforts, together with our allied entities, to qualify the human capital of the country and fill the gaps through Providing high-quality education, strengthening our communities, and thus contributing to the scientific, social, cultural, and economic development of the country.”

The scholarships will be divided into six modalities and will support indigenous and Afro-descendant communities, people with disabilities, for the cocoa sector, climate change and others in alliance with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

List of scholarship programmes

  • Fulbright Minciencias Scholarship: Aimed at Colombian professionals and researchers for doctoral studies in STEM fields, starting in the second semester of 2024.
  • Fulbright Scholarship for Afro-Descent: Targets Afro-Rizal and Palenquero communities in all fields of study.
  • Cocoa Sector Agricultural and Rural Development Scholarship: Focuses on professionals in the cocoa sector in Colombia and will be co-funded by the United States Department of Agriculture.
  • Fulbright Scholarships for Indigenous Communities: A quota will be made for the Colombian professional to pursue master’s and doctoral degrees in all academic fields.
  • Fulbright Saldarriaga Concha Scholarship: It will target professionals with medical, intellectual, sensory, or multiple disabilities.
  • J. William Fulbright Climate Mitigation Scholarship: Three scholarships will be awarded with support from the Friends of Fulbright Foundation in all fields of knowledge.
