Research celebrates with the School of Science the 7th anniversary of International Day of Women and Girls in Science – Press Room

On Thursday, February 8, the University Social Center, at the Espinardo Campus of the University of Murcia, will host the 7th Commemorative Day of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, an event that seeks to highlight the important role of women in science. Scientific field and promoting interest in research among high school students in the Murcia region. This day is organized by the Lyceum School of Science in collaboration with the Vice-Rector for Research of the University of Murcia.

The aim of the activity is twofold. On the one hand, it seeks to disseminate the role that women play in science and their influence on the growth and development of society. On the other hand, the aim is to foster interest in the profession of a researcher among young high school students, giving them the opportunity to learn first-hand about the experiences of young researchers. Students from ten secondary schools in the region will attend the event, many of whom will present posters of the research they have conducted at their centres.

The event will be opened at 9.30am by José Lujan Alcaraz, Dean of the University of Murcia; Sinina Corbalan García, Vice Chancellor for Research at UMU; Beatriz Miguel Hernandez, Dean of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena; Consuelo Ruiz Monteiro, President of the School of Science for Women Scientists of the Region of Murcia; Estrella Nuñez Delicado, Vice Chancellor for Research at the Catholic University of San Antonio in Murcia; and Antonio González Valverde, Director of the SéNeCa Foundation. The closing of the event will be attended by the Minister of the Environment, Universities and Research and Mar Menor, Juan María Vázquez.

After the opening, the day will begin with a conference by UMU researcher Aurora Gonzalez, who will explore the world of artificial intelligence applied in science. Afterwards, a group of young researchers will tell their experiences in science in a roundtable.

At the conclusion of the celebration, annual awards will be presented to young scientists in the Murcia region for their distinguished careers.

This day is sponsored by the “SéNeCa” Foundation, the Ministry of the Environment, Universities and Research, Mar Menor (CARM) and the Mare Nostrum Campus (UMU), and in collaboration with academic and research institutions such as the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT), the Catholic University of San Antonio de Murcia (UCAM), and the Pascual Institute.
