New Breeds, More Stakes: In CABA, there are variants of Manaus, UK and Rio de Janeiro

The Argentine Institutional Genomics Project has revealed the number of cases detected with coronavirus variants and their mutations in the city of Buenos Aires, as well as in other regions of the provinces of Buenos Aires, Cordoba, Santa Fe and Neuquen. The Manaus, British and Rio de Janeiro strains were all recorded in CABA, which has set a record of infections in the past 24 hours.

Through the joint detection of the N501Y, A570D, D614G, P681H and T716I mutations, the UK variant was identified in a total of 54 samples, according to Report No. 19 of the Country Project. In CABA, 22 cases of this strain have been found, 20 of which have no travel history or epidemiological link to travelers.

Four other cases correspond to the suburbs of Buenos Aires: one from Ituzingo, one from Tres de Febrero, one from Merlo and one from Haedo, all of which have no travel history or epidemiological link to travelers.

The report highlighted that it was noted “Increased frequency of UK variable detection in cases where there is no epidemiological link to tourism in the Buenos Aires metropolitan area (AMBA) In recent epidemiological weeks.

The Manaus variant, which caused havoc in Brazil, was found in 16 CABA cases, including 15 cases with no travel history or contact with travelers.

The S_E484K mutation and the Rio de Janeiro variant were detected in 32 samples, of which 15 were CABA samples. In addition, the S_L452R mutation was detected in seven samples, one of which was in the Buenos Aires region. On the other hand, the S_L452Q mutation was detected in 63 samples, with 23 CABA cases.
