Interoperability, Common Indicators and Problem Identification: The Science, Technology and Innovation Working Group met at the National Assessment Table

In the library of the Science Cultural Center of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MINCyT), a working day was carried out within the framework of the National Council for Public Policy Assessment. It is organized by the Ministry of Administration and Public Employment (SGyEP), as well as the Secretariat for Strategic Affairs (SAE) and the National Council for the Coordination of Social Policy (CNCPS), both of which depend on the nation’s presidency.

Experts from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, the National Agency for the Promotion of Technological Research and Development, the National Council for Scientific and Technical Research (CONICET) and the National Committee for Space Activities also participated in the meeting. In addition, the Technical Team of the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Institutional Strengthening of the SGyEP was present, as well as the State Action Monitoring Team of the MINCyT.

Castellani opened the opening alluding to the need to standardize administrative records in order to ensure the interoperability of the data they hold. In turn, regarding the board’s role, he said: “In the National Evaluation Board, we are not interested in evaluating a specific programme. The goal is to be able to see concrete results in the different areas of public policy.”

After an exchange on objectives and lines of action, which included a dialogue on outcome indicators in science, technology and innovation (CTI) policies and principal beneficiaries. As a result, it was agreed on the priority dimensions of the proposed topics and their most important problems, and indicators for follow-up and evaluation of policies related to science, technology and innovation were agreed upon.

In conclusion, Canneto thanked the participants in the working groups and the progress made. “These are the first steps on a great path, which is fundamental for us, to run the country. Evaluation is the key to improving public policies,” said the national director.

The National Council for Public Policy Evaluation was established by Administrative Decision 203/2023 under the Secretary of Administration and Public Employment of the Prime Minister. It is a cross-sectional field of strategic direction, coordination and organization of public policy evaluation in the field of national public administration.
