Guixar is gaining weight in its relationship with Canada

The Vigo-Canada shipping line, operated by shipping company Hapag-Lloyd, will get a new boost with the participation of operator IFS, which specializes in marine work to standardize neutral cargo, according to sources from Terminal Marítima de Vigo (Tramavi), which operates the Guixar pier. The idea of IFS, as published by the specialized logistics media “Transportes XXI”, involves turning Vigo into one of its “hubs” on the peninsula, that is, a distribution center.

Company sources told the publication that with Leixoes (Oporto station) and Lisbon, Vigo is being presented as a new strategic point on the Atlantic coast. Termavi, for its part, notes that the connection is already working and that the entry of the IFS will expand its possibilities: it will offer freight forwarders to participate in direct contact with North America, a service that arrives in Montreal and is carried out over a period of 14 days, with the possibility of shipping to the largest cities of the country. The road to Canada is currently a key export from Guixar.

In parallel with the commitment to contact with Canada, IFS itself announced its readiness to open a new route to promote exports to Dubai from the port of Vigo. IFS is a company founded in Valencia in 1985 and currently has a direct presence in Europe, North Africa, Florida and Mexico. According to the same publication, its turnover in 2020 amounted to 45.5 million euros, a growth of 2.3 over the previous year, despite it being the year of the epidemic.
