Andres Medos travels to the United States and continues to nurture the dream

The ambition to have new adventures and opportunities with tennis prompted Andres Medos (19 years old) from Bahia to pack his bags and emigrate to the north of the continent.

More specifically to the United States, where his life, in addition to devoting himself to practicing the sport that he had developed since he was young, will now include the academic side.

Although the dream of overtaking with the racket does not give up. There may be the last chance to try to make this big leap towards reaching professionalism.

Meadows, who this year participated in two qualifying stages of the Futures tournaments, the first at the professional level, will benefit from a sports scholarship to the University of Arlington, in Dallas (Texas), where, in addition to hitting the ball, he will study mechanical engineering.

“On January 3, I traveled to Dallas to start an athletic scholarship at the University of Texas at Arlington. There is an Argentinian assistant coach and that is the reason I went there, plus the university is very good. He showed great interest in me and was excited to do good things with me and keep improving. Plus To being able to study in the USA, which seems like an excellent option to me.

Andrecito, the best on the domestic circuit in recent seasons (aside from achievements and rankings), also points to the sporting issue that looms large in this new context of competition.

“It's a top-tier university, competing with the best in the country. If we do well in the regular season, we can qualify for the playoffs, where the top 32 universities in the country play. It will definitely be a great experience,” he said.

For many tennis players (there are many cases in the modern era of tennis today), attending university was a stepping stone to the professional world.

Although the road is hard, long and very sacrificial, it is still an open door to try again. If not, as if that wasn't enough, Meadows will have an enviable athletic and academic life experience.

“From these universities came players such as Americans Ben Shelton, Mackenzie McDonald and others (in the past, John Isner, for example). “That's the hope, and I don't know if it'll get to that point, but it will continue to grow,” he explained.

“Ever since I was a kid, my father (Andrés), who was in California, told me it was a unique experience and that I would have a good time. The references are the best,” he said.
