Andorra participates in the meeting of Ministers of Science, Technology and Innovation at the Ibero-American Summit of the Dominican Republic

Andorra’s Minister of the Presidency, Economy and Business, Jordi Gallardo, participated in the 5th Meeting of Ministers and Ibero-American High Authorities for Science, Technology and Innovation held in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. The meeting is part of the previous ministerial meetings of the 28th Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government, scheduled to take place in the Dominican Republic in 2023.

Gallardo enters the second roundtable for the day, titled “Development and Implementation of the Ibero-American Innovation Strategy”, chaired by Franklin García Fermin, President of Higher Education, Science and Technology of the Dominican Republic, and which also involved her counterparts from Brazil, Cuba and Portugal.

During his presentation, Jordi Gallardo highlighted Andorra’s commitment to innovation, noting specifically that the Principality, as the organizer of the 27th Summit, chose the theme “Innovation for Sustainable Development”. Goal 2030 – Ibero-American in the face of the coronavirus challenge.” He stated that innovation must be put at the service of the United Nations 2030 Agenda to promote sustainable development, taking into account the social, cultural, educational, environmental and economic dimensions, among others.

This meeting is part of the previous ministerial meetings of the 28th Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government.

He pointed out that “the country has significantly accelerated the momentum of the scientific, innovative, digital and entrepreneurship ecosystem, as a vector for the transformation towards a more resilient, prosperous and sustainable economy and society.” A fact represented by the Minister in the creation of Andorra Research and Innovation, which “has made it possible to bring together, strengthen and better coordinate the main public agents who develop science and innovation for sustainable development in the country into one institution”.

He also stressed the importance of the process of defining and implementing the national strategy for innovation and entrepreneurship with public and private actors in the sector.

The Head of the Presidency, Economy and Business confirmed that the government of the emirate is already implementing many measures related to this field and referred to the law on digital economy, entrepreneurship and innovation, as well as promoting Andorra as a living laboratory. The meeting of Ministers in Santiago de Compostela concluded with a closing ceremony hosted by the Secretariat for Cooperation of the Ibero-American Secretariat (SEGIB), Lorena Larios. Dominican Minister Franklin Garcia Fermin; and Spanish Minister of Science and Innovation Diana Morante.
