The UK and India discuss ways to “calm tensions” in the Middle East

London, November 3 (EFE).- British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi held a conversation on Friday in which they agreed on the need to “calm down tensions” in the Middle East.

The two leaders considered the situation regarding the conflict between Israel and the Palestinian Islamic movement Hamas “deeply worrying,” a spokesman for Downing Street, the official office of the British Prime Minister, said in a detailed statement.

They condemned Hamas’ attacks against Israel, and stressed that the movement “does not represent the Palestinians.”

The British Prime Minister also stressed “the importance of protecting innocent civilians in Gaza” and taking the necessary steps so that humanitarian aid can reach the Strip on a regular basis.

Regarding the bilateral relationship between London and New Delhi, the two leaders discussed the progress made in negotiations to sign the free trade agreement, and stressed their desire to reach “an ambitious agreement that benefits both parties.”

The two leaders also spoke about the Cricket World Cup being held in India, as detailed by Downing Street, and Sunak congratulated Modi on his national team’s performance. Evie
