NASA's laser message from the far reaches of the universe that baffles scientists – teach me about science

the The National Center for Aeronautics and Space AdministrationNASA, or NASA, for short in English, has confirmed the receipt of a message received from outer space made with a laser millions of kilometers away. This is how events happened.

The Space Race is one of the highlights of our history as a race. Since humans began exploring beyond our atmosphere, astronomical science has evolved.

The first step towards a bright future was taken the day humans successfully reached space. Since that fact, science has progressed by leaps and bounds, improving the available technologies.

Now, one organization that has greatly influenced the space race is undoubtedly the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, also known as NASA. An enterprise that has distinguished science and technology repeatedly since its establishment.

To confirm this fact, NASA recently confirmed a crazy technological advance, as it was able to capture a message sent via laser at a distance of 16 million kilometers.

This scientific and technological achievement occurred thanks to a project carried out by NASA, which uses one of its space missions, which is the NASA ship Psyche, which was launched in 2023 directly to an asteroid of the same name to study it, which is located between Mars. And the buyer.

This project was undertaken to prove that optical communications can be more efficient than the radio waves currently used.

To prove this statement, work has begun on the Deep Space Optical Communications, or DSOC, project.

In NASA's words, this experiment “is the agency's first demonstration of optical communications outside the Earth-moon system.”

This experiment works so that an encrypted message is sent from the “Pysche” spacecraft via a laser at a distance of 16 million kilometers to Earth, where it was successfully received by NASA.

The fact that shocked the experts is that this message arrived faster than expected, which indicates the efficiency of the experiment. Although there is still a long way to go to master this new technology.

To measure the distance that the message traveled via the laser, let us take into account that, according to NASA, the moon is at a distance of 384 thousand kilometers, and the message was sent from a distance of 16 million, that is, nearly 40 times farther. The distance between the Earth and the moon.

Thanks to this success achieved by NASA, the possibility of stable communication between Earth and Mars opens up for future projects, as it seeks to create a community of humans on the barren surface of Mars.
