IPPDH and the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Rio de Janeiro (IFRJ) signed a letter of intent to promote joint action

On February 19, 2024, within the framework of the transfer of the Executive Directorate of the MERCOSUR Institute for Human Rights, the Executive Director of the International Institute for Human Rights Development, Andressa Caldas, and Rafael Barreto Almada, Dean of the Institute The Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Rio de Janeiro (IFRJ) has signed a letter of intent – ​​the first of this new administration – to promote joint action.

The objective of this Letter of Intent is to promote a human rights approach to public policies in MERCOSUR countries through the development of training and education procedures for public officials and social actors as well as applied research and technical assistance initiatives.

Both institutions will jointly develop and implement activities and initiatives in the field of applied research and extension to promote human rights education, citizen participation in public policies and communication processes.

The Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Rio de Janeiro (IFRJ) is a federal public institution of free education that aims to provide humanistic, critical and citizen education. It offers free courses in 14 municipalities in Rio de Janeiro. There are baccalaureate courses (technical courses that can be taken in an integrated, concurrent or post-baccalaureate way), higher education courses (bachelor and postgraduate) and extension courses.

The International Conference for the Promotion of Human Rights aims to contribute to strengthening the rule of law in the countries that make up the bloc, as well as strengthening human rights as a fundamental axis of the identity and development of MERCOSUR. Its main tasks are research, training and technical assistance in formulating public policies and promoting human rights.

The signing of the letter of intent was accompanied by Professor Pamela Passos from the International Federation of Journalists.
