Eczema can lead people to depression and anxiety, a new study has revealed. Nearly three-quarters of people with eczema had poor mental health in the previous 10 days, but only about half were referred by an allergist to a counsellor.

People with eczema are more likely to suffer from depression and anxiety, and it gets worse when they develop additional allergy symptoms, according to a study to be presented Thursday at the meeting. Annual American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (ACAAI) in Anaheim, Calif., where nearly three in four (72%) patients with atopic dermatitis (AD) — the medical term for eczema — have poor symptoms.
