The Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that Yvonne Baki's duties as Ambassador of Ecuador to the United States have ended, and that she is scheduled to assume the position of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Ecuador to the government of the French Republic in the coming days.

Given rumors that Soledad Peña Plaza would be President Daniel Noboa's choice to occupy the Ecuadorian Embassy in the United States, the State Department made it clear that it is the caretaker of the diplomatic headquarters and that soon, through presidential decree, the new ambassador will be appointed.

After the designation is made, the Ecuadorian Ministry of Foreign Affairs must request approval from the United States government for the designation to become final.

Peña is a lawyer with a master's degree in international economic and business law. He has been working at the Ecuadorian Embassy in the United States of America since December 2023.

The official has experience in international arbitration, and stated on her LinkedIn profile that she has worked at major law firms in this sector including: White & Case LLP, Dechert LLP, and WilmerHale. He is registered in the country as having been a legal assistant in the municipality of Guayaquil between 2012 and 2013.

She obtained a law degree from the Catholic University of Santiago de Guayaquil in 2017 and a fourth-level master's degree in international business and economic law from Georgetown University Law Center in 2019.

In addition, she is the founder of the Ecuadorian Very Young Arbitration Practitioners Group (ECUVYAP), an academic and professional space for young people interested in domestic and international arbitration.

Soledad Peña Plaza is a lawyer with a master's degree in international economic and business law.

While the reasons that prompted the President of the Republic to make the decision to change are not yet known, as Baki was approved at the beginning of his term.

Baki has cooperated with nine Ecuadorian governments over the past 25 years, in various capacities, but especially as Ecuador's ambassador to the United States.

Since the administration of Jaime Roldos, in 1981, he has participated in the governments of Sixto Durán Balin, Djamel Mahoud, Gustavo Noboa, Lucio Gutiérrez, Rafael Correa, Lenin Moreno and Guillermo Lasso.

Yvonne Baki was present at the meetings held by President Daniel Noboa with the delegation of US officials that visited Ecuador in mid-January, which was headed by Christopher Dodd, Special Presidential Advisor for the Americas; Laura Richardson, Commander, US Southern Command (SOUTHCOM); and Christopher Lundberg, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Bureau of Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs.
