Leon (Mexico), July 2 (EFE). – The Canadian basketball team defeated host Mexico 83-57 this Sunday, in its first appearance in the 2023 America’s Cup for Women, which is being held in the city of Leon, in central Mexico.
Shay Cooley led the Canadian offense with 19 points, two rebounds and four assists. Sofia Bayan was the highlight for Mexico, with 10 points and five rebounds.
Canada had no contest in the paint against Mexico, earning 40 points, to just 12 of their opponents. In addition, the Canadiens had better aim on field goals and were not forgiving on counterattacks.
With this result, Canada occupied one of the places in the quarter-finals, a battle in which Mexico also participated, which appeared last Saturday in the tournament by defeating the Dominican Republic.
Before, Puerto Rico remained undefeated in the competition by fielding the Dominican Republic with a score of 73-47, which remained winless in its first two games.
