Baldur’s Gate 3 players are against beauty mods

Many Baldur’s Gate 3 players have criticized mods that attempt to make party members more “attractive”, claiming that it makes them “irrationally angry”.

The characters that can be part of your team in Baldur’s Gate 3 are undoubtedly the game’s strong point. Unique designs, impressive performances, and well-written dialogue make characters like Astarion and Shadowheart instantly recognizable, and even NPCs like Alfira receive similar praise.

Given how popular these characters are, it’s natural for players to defend their designs and backstories, especially when things like a character’s race or class play an important role in their personal history and behavior. Can you imagine what it would be like if Lae’zel weren’t a Githyanki, or if Astarion wasn’t a vampire?

This is why some mods, designed to change the appearance of characters (usually female characters), receive so much hate from the community. It doesn’t help that many of these modifications change these defining traits of the characters.

Baldur’s Gate 3 players are highly critical of the beauty mods

One of the most offensive examples recently appeared on the Baldur’s Gate 3 subreddit, where Minthara’s domineering features were replaced with a more docile, “traditional charm” look.

We have also seen examples where Lae’zel’s Githyanki facial structure has been reshaped to give her a more human-like nose.

Player reactions to these changes were noticeably negative: “Edits like this make me irrationally angrySomeone said.

Ultimately, I don’t care if people use these mods. It’s your game. It doesn’t matter. But every time I see her I feel a little embarrassed. Such as: What did they do to you?“Another commented.

Another player compared the situation to K-Pop plastic surgery: “Minthara is really beautiful. I really hate insta-baddie edits and personally wouldn’t change the way you look“.
