House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced her official decision today on impeaching President Trump.
Congresswoman Pelosi declared that the US House of Representatives will move forward with an official impeachment inquiry into all US contact with Ukraine.
The new “scandal” they are trying to impeach Trump on follows now-debunked claims that Donald Trump pressured the new Ukrainian President to open an investigation into Hunter Biden’s business dealings in the country. According to a second-hand whistleblower report, Trump asked the Ukrainian leader about the issue several times on a phone call.
The report did note that there was no quid-pro-quo offered by Donald Trump on the call. Ukraine also declared they never felt pressured by Trump during the phonecall.
Nancy Pelosi has long pushed against impeaching President Trump despite her personal feelings about him. Pelosi has suggested multiple times that a failed impeachment of any kind could help Trump win re-election in 2020.
Last week, however, House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler decided to open an impeachment investigation following reports that the US military had stayed at the Trump-Turnberry resort in Scottland. The reports of any violation were quickly debunked after the military provided records showing they have stayed at the resort since before Donald Trump won the 2016 election.
The new investigation into the alleged Ukraine scandal, however, has even bigger potential implications to the Biden family. Hunter Biden was hired on to a Ukrainian Natural Gas company in 2014 at $50k-per-month. The company was under federal investigation at the time.
Then-Vice President Joe Biden threatened to withhold $1 billion in foreign aid funds from Ukraine unless they fired the Prosecutor General who was investigating the company. They fired the prosecutor and closed the investigation.
Donald Trump had allegedly asked the Ukrainian president to investigate this case. Ukraine has since offered to investigate if the US submits an official request.
Either way, it was clear Nancy Pelosi was very unhappy with her party’s actions when she decided to skip out on a Question and Answer session she had scheduled with reporters. This all looks great for Trump’s prospects in 2020.
