White House envoy announces the establishment of an entrepreneurship accelerator led by the United States, Canada, and Uruguay

Uruguay will receive a delegation from the United States government next week, headed by Ramon Escobar, Director of Western Hemisphere Strategy at the White House.

This visit follows an invitation extended by the Uruguay Innovation Center Programme, in coordination with the Uruguayan Embassy in the United States, and aims to announce that Uruguay will lead a network of investors aimed at mobilizing risk capital for local and regional entrepreneurs. On the other hand, it will support the establishment of a regional accelerator for startups.

This announcement, which will be announced at the Punta Tech event, is part of the initiatives supported by the Americas Economic Prosperity Alliance (APEP), an association launched in Washington in November 2023 with the participation of several countries in America, including Barbados, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, United States, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Dominican Republic, and Uruguay. President Louis Lacalle Pou was present during its opening.

APEP seeks to enhance regional competitiveness and mobilize investments in the region. When launching APEP in 2023, Uruguay committed to supporting the launch of a regional accelerator program in partnership with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and leading the creation of a network of venture capital investors. Through this regional accelerator and investor network, the program will bring together promising entrepreneurs from the region, provide training and seed capital, and facilitate connections with private investors. The goal is to benefit hundreds of startups and mobilize additional capital to boost economic development in the region. This initiative reflects Uruguay's position as a driver of innovation and entrepreneurship at the regional level.
