“The United States is the only country where I have been assaulted in the street,” says the creator of the Telegram app.

Caracas.- The founder of the instant messaging platform Telegram, Pavel Durov, confirms that he has not conducted any business in the United States due to the attack he was subjected to in San Francisco and the FBI's scrutiny.

Durov gave a long interview with American journalist Tucker Carlson, the video of which was published on Tuesday. During the meeting, the businessman spoke, among other topics, about the bad experience he had in the United States, the country he chose to develop his business.

“I really thought San Francisco would be the place, because of course all the tech companies are based there or around it,” he said. “A couple of things happened that made us think twice.”

“One thing was very clear. I was in San Francisco and I was attacked in the street […] He announced that this was the only country where he was attacked in the street, noting that three “big men” tried to steal his phone, but he resisted. “It was a shock to me, because I traveled a lot and this was the first time they attacked me.”

Durov confirmed that the other reason that prompted him to decide to step back and not do business in the North American country was the excessive scrutiny exercised by the FBI and the American security services, as well as the attempt to appoint his technical director. “We are getting a lot of attention from the FBI, from the security services, wherever we are in the United States,” he said.
