The Formula 1 race set sail again in Puerto Portals

Puerto Portals 52 SUPER SERIES Sailing Week kicks off Thursday in the waters of Palma Bay. The Port of Mallorcan is the third test venue of the season for the world’s best single track. These boats are Formula 1 for sailing.

The fleet is already moored in Puerto Portals pants. The competition begins on Thursday 21 with the official practice regatta at 1:00 pm. Registration exams will take place from Friday, July 22nd to Tuesday, July 26th. 9 boats from 6 different nationalities compete. There are more than 120 crew members from 17 different nationalities. “These days in Puerto Portals we will have some of the best sailors in the world. Most of them are Olympic medalists and Copa America champions, including 4 Majorcans: Pedro Mas (Interlodge), Jordi Calafat (platoon), Joan Volana and Matthew Barber (Proveza). This was stated by General Manager of the 52 Super Series, Agustin Zuluita.

Provence (Turkey)

Phoenix (South Africa)

Vayu (Thailand)

US boat Quantum Racing won the first two events of the season and reached Puerto Portals as circuit captain and was recently declared the TP52 World Champion for the fourth year (2014, 2016, 2018 and 2022).

Puerto Portals CEO Corinna Graf has invited everyone to visit Puerto Portals during these weeks to see the boats and sailors up close. “We encourage everyone to visit us. All citizens will be able to see the boats up close if they approach Puerto Portals before 11 am and after 5 pm when they return to the port. Our village will be a meeting point open to everyone every afternoon throughout the Puerto Portals week for sailing” he added Graf.

According to the General Manager of the 52 Super Series, Agustín Zulueta, “This competition brings about 3 million euros in direct income to each venue. We are talking about nine teams, each with between 25 and 30 members, plus the organization and more guests. In In total there are about 500 people living in the premises for ten days. We also provide international media coverage, because the rink is making an effort not only to promote the sporting aspect, but also the social aspect and the environment in which the regattas are held.” Puerto Portals has been the permanent location of the circuit since 2015, and it is the port that has hosted most of the editions of this race. “Puerto Portals has welcomed us in seven copies and we’re already considering it a second home,” says Zulueta.

The circuit promotes awareness and respect for the environment and is linked to the Kick Out Plastic movement, which includes athletes from different disciplines. “At Puerto Portals, we like to promote sport as well as promote sustainability. We know that this event brings both things together,” confirms Puerto Portals CEO Corinna Graf. Puerto Portals is working on the Blue Marina project that promotes respect and care for the environment in which both port workers and visitors participate.

One in 2022 is the eleventh edition of this competition that started in Bayonne in May, visited Cascais in June, after the Mallorca test, will move to Scarlino in September, to end in October with the grand final in Barcelona.
