The Diego Carrasco Beach Handball Cup has become a reality

From 7 to 9 July in the sports area of ​​Ferrara was the first edition of Diego Carrasco Beach Handball Cup. The Mayor of Torrox, Oscar Medina, and the Sports Councilor, Jose Manuel Fernandez, presented this international tournament organized jointly by the City Council with Malaga Costa del Sol Handball Club sports and business. Peppa Moreno, president of the club, and Oscar Meras, representative of the company, were also presenting this tournament, which honors the beach handball coach, who passed away in 2019, when he was only 49 years old.

The test that will enter the prestigious Eurohandball beach tour (EBT) and the Andalusian Circuit, in collaboration with the EHF, European Handball Federation. A total of 137 teams from juvenile to senior category, male and female, will face each other during these three days of competition that will mean a tourism boost for Torrox, already transformed into the capital of beach sports.

The Chancellor highlighted the importance of this type of event, not only on a sporting level, but also because of the economic revitalization it entails for the municipality, with the best teams from Spain, Portugal, the United Kingdom and even Brazil, who will do so. Share their beaches.

For the mayor of sports, evidence of the municipality’s commitment to beach sports is the investment made in the sports area of ​​Ferrara, which today is “one of the best facilities on the beach in the whole country”, as indicated. This made it possible not only to host tournaments, even at the international level, but also to be able to host gatherings of international teams, with the aim of their participation in important events.

“This tournament had to be held in Torrox because beach handball has given a lot to our municipality and Diego Carrasco He has been a key figure in both the beach handball events and the Spanish Cup that will be held here,” confirmed José Manuel Fernandez, who noted that after six editions, it was time to take another step.

This sporting event will also be very emotional, as shown Pippa Moreno, not only for the Málaga Costa del Sol handball club, with which Diego Carrasco has been associated for many years, but also for beach handball in general. “It’s the best tribute we can give him,” he said.

Moreno explained that the best teams participating in the Arena Tour will meet in this international tournament, which is a pioneer in Spain, which will start on Friday morning with the main teams, who will play the final on Saturday afternoon, when an act of homage to Diego. Carrasco. Finals will be held on Sunday and prizes will be awarded in different categories.
