The British Foreign Minister addresses illegal immigration with European leaders

London, October 16 (EFE).- British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly will attend a meeting of European and Balkan leaders on Monday in Albania to tackle illegal migration and urge them to maintain peace and stability in the face of tensions across the region. According to an official statement issued today.

The memorandum stated that he wanted to intelligently deal above all with the factors that drive illegal immigration.

Close cooperation between the United Kingdom and Albania has allowed Albanian citizens to cross the English Channel – between England and France – to decrease by 90% since the signing of the Joint Statement last December.

The statement added that their attendance at the annual Berlin Process summit follows the deployment of 600 British soldiers to Kosovo to support the NATO peacekeeping mission in response to the build-up of military forces along the Serbian border, where Kosovo is already witnessing violent attacks against Kosovo police.

Cleverly said: “The UK is committed to working with the Western Balkans to tackle gangs who exploit lives for profit, as well as addressing wider security challenges across the region.”

“Our partnership with Albania does just that. Thanks to increased cooperation between police agencies, we have reduced Albanian arrivals by small boats by 90% compared to last year, and are returning those who have no legal right to remain in the country,” the Kingdom added.
