“We try to encourage students to discover what they want to do without being conditioned by society or gender.” To this end, the Niemeyer Center hosted, yesterday morning, the second edition of the event “Awakening STEAM (Science, Technology, Economics, Arts, Mathematics) and Entrepreneurial Professions”, a day organized by the Association of Asturian Associated Trade Associations (ASATA) and through which it aims to foster curiosity and interest in studies. Science and technology among sixth grade students. Miguel González, Director of ASATA, highlighted the entity’s work in trying to break the “large gender gap” that still exists when choosing to study in these branches of university or in vocational training. This year, there were seven participating schools from across the region. The students, who for two months developed several group projects related to renewable energies, presented them yesterday to the rest of the participants. After that, they carried out several activities, including one related to artificial intelligence and the metaverse.

Three of the participants were Cristina Onis, Daniela García and Aurora González, students at the Baudilio Arce School in Oviedo. The young women explained: “We made a Ferris wheel in which plants will be placed, and through their movement they will produce light energy,” noting the importance of benefiting from renewable energies because “they will be essential.” Regarding the concern in this regard among young people of their age, they explained that it is “very low,” because, as they commented, they have no knowledge of “possible natural disasters.” In their case, none of them ruled out studying science-related studies in the future. In addition to the Oviedo School, six other educational centers participated in the day, including the Principality of Aviles. In total, about 250 students.
