Russia warns that it will respond to the confiscation of its assets in the United States

MOSCOW, April 22 (EVICOM).- Speaker of the Russian State Duma, or lower house of parliament, Vyacheslav Volodin, warned on Monday that Moscow would respond to the seizure of Russian assets frozen in the United States.

“Now our country has every reason to adopt similar measures regarding foreign assets,” Volodin wrote on his Telegram channel.

He denounced the bill approved by the US House of Representatives last Saturday, which authorizes the White House to confiscate and transfer Russian assets frozen in the United States to Ukraine, describing it as “theft.”

He added: “Washington has made a frankly illegal decision to commit theft. This will undoubtedly undermine the confidence of other countries, companies and private investors in the United States. It will destroy the principle of inviolability of property on which the global financial system is based.” Duma leader.

He stressed that the step taken by the United States would cause “irreparable damage to international law, create a precedent, and any country could act in the same way.”

According to Volodin, the Russian asset confiscation bill approved by the House of Representatives seeks to “push the European Union to take the same step, which would be devastating to the European economy.”

The head of the Russian legislature noted that of the $280,000 million owned by Russia blocked around the world, only $5,000 to $6,000 million are in the United States.

He pointed out that “the main part of the assets (210 billion euros) is frozen in the European Union.” Aficom
