Prime Minister Kishida plans to visit the United States in March 2024

Tokyo, December 28 (EFE). – Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida intends to visit the United States early next March, after President Joe Biden invited him in November to make an official visit in early 2024 as a country. a guest.

Sources from the Japanese executive branch said that the two governments are coordinating the details of Kishida's visit to the White House, during which the Japanese president will also consider addressing the US Congress, according to leaks published by Japanese public broadcaster NHK on Thursday.

The last official visit by a Japanese prime minister to the United States was Shinzo Abe's in 2015, so, if it happens, Kishida's visit would be the first in nine years.

Tokyo and Washington will prepare for this meeting after President Biden invited Kishida to pay a state visit during a summit held in November on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit held in San Francisco (California, USA).

While the possible meeting between Kishida and Biden on American soil is being finalized, Japan, China and South Korea are finalizing preparations for a trilateral summit in February at the earliest, as revealed by the aforementioned media.

Tokyo, which disagrees on certain issues with both Seoul and Beijing, wants to take advantage of the meeting between the three leaders to exchange views on North Korea, which has repeatedly launched ballistic missiles in recent months.

Tokyo plans to decide on the specific dates for Kishida's visit to the United States and the trilateral meeting based on next year's schedule for the regular session of the national parliament.
