Canadian Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Lawrence Macaulay announced the appointment of Deidra Kelly as Executive Director of Canada’s new Indo-Pacific Agriculture and Agri-Food Office (IPAAO) in Manila, Philippines.
With this gesture, the country formally announced its previous commitment to open the first Canadian agricultural office in the Indo-Pacific region, whose goal is to strengthen relations, enhance technical cooperation, help Canadian exporters find new business opportunities and contribute to Canada’s status as a trading hub. Kelly has 20 years of international experience in Canadian global affairs, including numerous foreign assignments, according to a release. She most recently served as Consul General of Canada in Mumbai (India), and was previously Ambassador to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Canada has trade agreements with several key markets in the Indo-Pacific region, including South Korea under the Canada-Korea Free Trade Agreement (CKFTA), and with Australia, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore and Vietnam under the Canada-Korea Free Trade Agreement. Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
IPAAO represents a C$31.8 million investment from the Government of Canada and supports the commercial pillar of Indo-Pacific strategy.
