Reuters. – Mexico will turn to a panel of experts to settle its differences over the United States’ interpretation of the application of rules of origin in the auto sector in the North American Trade Agreement, the T-MEC, three informed sources said Tuesday. Title.

In August, Mexican authorities asked the United States to initiate formal consultations on what they consider to be a stricter application of these rules to vehicle producers, and thus inconsistent with what was agreed in the agreement between Mexico, the United States and Canada.

Subsequently, Canada acceded to Mexico’s request, which represents the first non-controversial phase in the state-to-state dispute settlement mechanism set forth in Chapter 31 of the T-MEC.

The Economy Ministry did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
