Mexico and the United States advance to the semi-finals in Santiago 2023

The Mexican national team helped La Roja, which only needs to draw with Jamaica, to qualify for the semi-finals of the Pan American Games.

The semi-finals of the women’s soccer tournament at the Pan American Games will be held on Tuesday, October 31. For this reason, the matches that will be held on the third date will determine the final qualifiers for the final round of Santiago 2023. Mexico and the United States dealt the first blow in their groups.

The first match that ended was between the United States and Argentina. The North Americans achieved a 4-0 victory, putting them in first place in the Group B standings. They added 9 points, scored 13 goals for themselves, and barely conceded a single goal.

Youngster Kendall Budak, just 16 years old, opened the scoring in the early 15th minute. She was followed in scoring by Charlotte Kohler, who increased the lead to 2-0 over Albiceleste in the 20th minute. In the second half, Amalia Villarroel scored 3-0 in the 51st minute, while Grace Restovich added the goal 4-0 in the 55th minute.

On the other hand, Mexico beat Paraguay 4-1 and secured its place in the semi-finals as leaders of Group A. Rebecca Fernandez opened the scoring for the Guarani (10), but it was Scarlett Camberos (38) and Diana Ordonez (42). Maria Sanchez (67′) and Lizbeth Ovalley (70′) sealed the win.

With this result, many teams in the Pan American Games have become complicated. In the event of a draw or win over Jamaica, Chile will qualify for the semi-finals, leaving Paraguay in third place. The same applies to Costa Rica, which only needs to beat Bolivia by more than one goal to eliminate Argentina.
