Hayao Miyazaki’s new animated film makes history in the United States

“Kimitachi wa dô ikiru ka” (“The Boy and the Heron”), Hayao Miyazaki’s new animated film made history over the weekend when it became the first original anime production to top the US box office on its debut.A total of $12.8 million.

This was highlighted by the specialized website Variety, which highlighted that the film, which represents the return of the famous Japanese artist, who had announced his retirement in 2013, collects 84 million in its account globally.

Second place went to “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes,” the second part of the famous saga, with $9.4 million. It was followed by “Godzilla MINus One”, with $8.3 million, which also made history by becoming the highest-grossing Japanese live-action film in the United States, earning about $25.3 million in that country.

In fourth and fifth place were the two animated films: “Trolls 3: The Gang is Together” with $6.2 million, and “Wish: The Power of Wishes” with $5.3 million, respectively.

This weekend’s big decline was suffered by “Renaissance,” Beyoncé’s concert film, which topped the box office in previous days but suffered a 77 percent drop in ticket sales, dropping it to sixth place with $5 million.
