Ghostbusters dominates box office – Telemundo Fresno

“Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” was the highest-grossing film in the United States this weekend, bringing in $45.2 million, according to studio estimates released Sunday, giving Sony Pictures its first blockbuster film since last summer.

“Frozen Empire”'s premiere in 4,345 theaters was roughly equivalent to the $44 million that “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” earned in 2021.

“Afterlife” revived the series with a sequel based on the descendants (Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, and Mckenna Grace) of Egon Spengler's character starring Harold Ramis, along with seismologist Gary Groberson starring Paul Rudd.

Neither film received good reviews. “Frozen Empire” received a B+ CinemaScore, slightly lower than the A- grade earned by “Afterlife.”

The Frozen Empire does not guarantee a good financial result, but it hopes to have a long life during the Spring Break holiday.
