Chiapas Judokas wins the bronze medal in Calgary, Canada 2023

A great result was achieved by the two Chiapas judokas who participated in the Pan American Junior Championships Calgary, Canada 2023, after winning bronze medals, Maria Fernanda Cruz in the junior sector and Jessica Gomez in the junior category, accompanied by their coach, Luis Alberto Ladies Martinez.

Regarding these two medals, Tania Robles Velasquez, Director General of the Sports Institute of the State of Chiapas, congratulated the judokas on this great result of international stature, raising not only the name of Chiapas, but also the name of Mexico. For them to continue giving everything they have in each of the competitions.

Regarding the result of Maria Fernanda Cruz, the girl from Chiapas was registered in the Cadet category in the 63 kg category, where she faced Arizmendi Nguyen from Puerto Rico in the first place, to meet later in the semifinals against Emily Gaspe from the United States (ranked 5th in the world). He loses in this round.

But despite the defeat, the Chiapas woman did not collapse, but rather learned from the defeat, and in the confrontation for the bronze medal, she was able to overcome Jayda Volpe from the United States, to win the medal and rise to second place. Podium at this international event, seeing the work done at the camp in Spain and the World Championships in Croatia.

For her part, Jessica Gomez competed in the junior category in the +78 kg category, and like her partner she also managed to climb to the podium, where she was lower than Katia Alves and Inia Pires, both from Brazil; It should be noted that in this competition, the Chiapas girl was invited to the junior category.

After receiving the medal, Maria Fernanda Cruz thanked the Chiapas State Sports Institute for the support, through its director Tania Robles, for supporting her in her dream of competing internationally. Also present on this trip was coach Luis Alberto Damas Martinez, who was a key player in obtaining the two medals.
