Argentines residing in the United Kingdom who are authorized to vote in today’s general elections in Argentina have begun voting at the country’s Consulate General in London.
Consul Carolina Pérez Coleman informed Tellam that at 8 a.m. local time (4 a.m. in Argentina) the first voters began to arrive and that the flow continues so far during the morning in the City of London.
The diplomatic representative stressed that “there are 7,500 Argentines registered for these elections in the United Kingdom. This is a noticeable increase compared to 6,200 voters in the midterm legislative elections scheduled for 2021.”
“The registered voters who can vote in this election are those who changed their address to the United Kingdom on their DNI before April 25, 2023, the deadline set by the electoral justice system,” Perez Coleman noted.
He also stated that the process will continue until six o’clock in the evening, according to the same rules and regulations of electoral operations in Argentina.
Perez Coleman explained, “Three voting tables were prepared to accommodate voters, and each one can accommodate about 2,400 voters.”
In addition, he explained that voting abroad has certain distinctive characteristics compared to Argentina, because it is optional.
“In the case of Argentine tourists currently in the United Kingdom, they have to justify not voting, a procedure that takes place online,” he explained.
Regarding the audit, Pérez Coleman pointed out that when the elections close in the United Kingdom, the table authorities, who are citizen volunteers, will recount its table in the presence of the party’s accredited prosecutors.
He added, “After that, they will prepare the audit report, which will be sent by diplomatic mail to Argentina for the final sorting.”
