“Terminator 2” enters the US National Film Registry

As it does every year, the Library of Congress has selected 25 films to be added to the United States’ National Film Registry, which includes films considered important for their cultural, historical, or aesthetic significance. Among the films selected is Terminator 2: Judgment Day, the 1991 hit film directed by James Cameron and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Another popular movie on the list is Home Alone, an early 1990s film about a boy defending his house from burglars on Christmas.

The complete list of new additions to the National Film Registry for 2023 includes a variety of films, from silent films from the 1920s to more recent films such as 2013’s Best Picture winner 12 Years a Slave, and ranges from children’s films to films such as The Nightmare Before Christmas and Lady and the Tramp, to romantic dramas like Love & Basketball and brilliant infomercials like Spike Lee’s Bamboozled.

The total number of films in the National Film Registry now stands at 875. The public can suggest films for consideration in next year’s selection on the Library of Congress website until August 15.
