SEOUL, Dec. 14 (Yonhap) — South Korea, along with Japan and Canada, participated in an annual US-led humanitarian operation to provide humanitarian aid to the Federated States of Micronesia ahead of the Christmas season. Thursday by the US Indo-Pacific Command.

The air forces of the four countries sent C-130 aircraft to the US Andersen Air Force Base on Guam to participate in Operation Christmas Drop, which took place from December 1 to 6, according to the command.

He said that during this year’s multinational operation, cargo planes delivered 210 packages of humanitarian aid and other essential items to more than 42,000 Micronesian citizens on 58 islands, and conducted a formation flight for a “joint show of strength” and solidarity.

The command said in a statement that the cargo planes walked in perfect harmony on the runway, paving the way for a historic event: the first joint multinational air flight in the history of Operation Christmas Drop.

He added that after the “Elephant Walk” exercise, an aircraft and crew from each participating country took to the sky, symbolizing the success of the interoperability of the two countries’ air forces.

Operation Christmas Drop, which began in 1952, is the U.S. military’s oldest humanitarian airlift operation.
