Washington, USA.- It was stated that the review in 2026 of the Mexico-United States-Canada (T-MEC) Agreement should ensure that the content of products marketed under the agreement originates in North America and not in China. Rogelio Ramirez de la O, Secretary of the Treasury.

De La O confirmed, during his participation on Monday in an Atlantic Council forum in Washington, within the framework of the spring meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, that he is receptive to addressing a possible complaint about trade triangulation from China to the United States. United States via Mexico.

“We recognize that (the review) will highlight a higher level of demand from (T-MEC) member states. Members should realize that they are primarily marketing North American content.

“The T-MEC review in 2026 will require ensuring a level of traceability of the origin of products,” Ramirez de la O said.

Last week, Moody's Analytics did not rule out that some products exported from Mexico to the United States under the USMCA originate outside North America.

He added: “We have a very large trade deficit with China. “That is why we are very receptive to this issue,” the Mexican official added.

In 2023, Mexico imported $114 billion from China and exported only $10 billion, according to Bank of Mexico data.

On the other hand, De La O stressed that the fiscal deficit that Mexico is experiencing this year will lead to the end of large government projects.
