The epic film “Furiosa”. Mad Max It will premiere at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, organizers announced Thursday, nine years after “Mad Max: Fury Road,” the fourth installment in the post-apocalyptic series. George Miller's film will be released on May 15 with actors Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Hemsworth and Tom Burke in attendance.

The film, which will be released on May 24 in Spain and Latin America, will be screened out of competition at Cannes.

“Furiosa: From the Mad Max Saga” explores the origins of the heroine featured in “Furious Road,” an Academy Award-winning film starring Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy.

Anya Taylor-Joy, known for The Queen's Gambit, plays young Furiosa in this prequel.

She is captured by a mob of bikers led by the warlord Dementus, and will attempt to return home.

“The idea for this prequel has been floating around in my mind for over ten years.” George Miller said, citing the organizers' statement.

“I am thrilled to be back at the Cannes Film Festival with Anya, Chris and Tom.” The statement noted.

“There is no better place than the Croisette to discover this film with the audience.”The Australian author of brilliant and popular cinema has come to the spotlight.

The Mad Max saga began in 1979 and launched Mel Gibson to stardom. George Miller, an eclectic film director, was president of the Cannes Film Festival in 2016. In 2022, he presented Three Thousand Years Waiting out of competition, with Tilda Swinton and Idris Elba.
