Emotionally Elton John in his last concert in the United Kingdom

Elton John performed at the closing ceremony of Britain's legendary Glastonbury festival on Sunday, concluding the annual show with what could be his final performance in the UK.

“I never thought I would play Glastonbury.”He told the crowd.

“It's a very special and emotional night for me, it might be my last gig in England, in Great Britain, so I better play well and enjoy them.”.

The 76-year-old ended his remarkable career with a farewell tour around the world, after performing in the United States in May before a final concert on July 8 in Stockholm.

“Elton is a legend”

Glastonbury Festival, the most famous British music festival, has been held for five decades on a farm in southwest England.

Before taking to the Pyramid stage on Sunday night, fans' expectations were at an all-time high.

“Elton is a legend,” student Giles Briscoe (26 years old) told AFP while wearing a replica of the famous baseball suit that John wore at his famous 1975 concert at Dodgers Stadium in Los Angeles.

John did not disappoint. The show began with “Pinball Wizard”, which he performed in the rock opera “Tommy”, before playing some of his most famous songs such as “Candle in the Wind”, “Crocodile Rock” and “I'm Still Standing”.

John thanked his followers for “52 years of incredible love and loyalty.”

“It was an amazing trip and I had the best time possible. I will never forget them, they are in my head, my heart and my soul,” the artist said.
