Chile loses to Canada and awaits Argentina in women’s goalball

The Santiago 2023 host team was unable to withstand the might of the North American side at the conclusion of Group D and will face a tough challenge in the final stage.

With a harsh 11-1 defeat against Canada, Chile ended its participation in the fourth group of women’s goalball at the 2023 Parapan American Games in Santiago, and awaits a difficult opponent in the final stage: Argentina.

The team coached by Samuel Hidalgo could not do much against the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, which once again saw the participation of Emma Reinke, the scorer of the top five and eight goals in the North American victory.

With this result, and if there is no surprise in the confrontation between the United States and Peru, Canada will occupy second place and Chile will place third, so they will face Mexico and Argentina, respectively, for the ticket to qualify for the semi-finals.

“We did not consider the defeat we suffered before against the United States as a defeat, because we are gaining experience. This group has already touched us and we are at least standing, conceding goals. “Before, in the early stages, they were 10 goals ahead of us,” Edith Muñoz said.

The Chilean national team appreciates that the team had a “beautiful experience. It is the first time we participate in the Parapan American Games and I am happy and proud to be here. Thanks to this effort, people see what we have done.”
