Cameron travels to Paris and Rome to call for greater coordination on Gaza and Ukraine

London, 19 December 2019 (EFE).- British Foreign Secretary David Cameron will travel on Tuesday to Paris and Rome to try to increase cooperation with the French and Italian governments to address the conflicts in Gaza and Ukraine.

The new head of British diplomacy and the former Prime Minister intends to repeat his call for a “sustainable ceasefire” that he had already formulated last weekend in a joint article with his German counterpart Annalena Baerbock.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cameron will urge his European partners to better coordinate the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Strip to alleviate the suffering of civilians.

Likewise, he will request the maintenance of military, humanitarian and economic aid to Ukraine so that it can defend itself against Russia.

He will also address the issue of illegal immigration after the UK signed agreements with the two countries, which, in his opinion, “managed to reduce boat arrivals across the (English) Channel by a third”.

In Paris, Cameron will meet President Emmanuel Macron and Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna before the two countries celebrate the 120th anniversary of the Entente Cordiale and the 80th anniversary of D-Day in 2024.

Meanwhile, he will be received in Rome by his counterpart, Antonio Tajani, and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who already hosted the British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, last weekend.

“As we face some of the greatest international security challenges of our lifetimes, our response must be strong and resilient with our European allies,” Cameron said, according to the memo.

“From the desperate humanitarian situation in Gaza to (Russian President Vladimir) Putin’s brutality in Ukraine, it is more important than ever to strengthen our alliances and ensure our voices are heard,” he added.
