Bukele shares videos of Salvadorans voting from different parts of the United States

Bukele, who is seeking immediate re-election today despite the constitutional ban, noted in his posts that the videos, in which you can see people lining up to vote, were signed in the states of New York, California, Maryland, New Jersey, Texas and Virginia.

In one video from New Jersey, voters can be seen chanting Bukele's name with their hands raised.

The 42-year-old Salvadoran president is the most likely candidate in these elections, in which five opposition party candidates are also competing with almost no chance of winning, according to opinion polls.

The United States has the largest community of Salvadorans abroad. According to data from the Migration Policy Institute (MPI), more than 1.4 million Cuscatlicos lived in the country in 2021, half of whom had no legal status.

A Pew report estimates that by 2021 there were 2.5 million Latinos who identified as Salvadoran. 52% of these immigrants have lived in the United States for more than 20 years.

Nearly 30 polling places in the United States have been opened for Salvadorans to vote in the election.

Salvadorans abroad who have a unique identification document (DUI) with an address abroad were allowed to vote online. Those who do not meet this requirement can participate in the elections by going to the polls in the main cities of the country.
