Argentina – Canada: Ninth meeting of the consultations on human rights

On July 13, 2023, the ninth meeting of the consultations on human rights between Argentina and Canada took place in the city of Buenos Aires.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed the main issues under discussion in the current session of the UN Human Rights Council and the recent session of the General Assembly of the Organization of American States. They also exchanged views on strengthening the inter-American human rights system.

The two countries exchanged experiences on various initiatives related to the issue of business and human rights. In the same sense, they spoke with the aim of promoting joint action on issues related to the human rights of groups living in fragile situations, particularly indigenous peoples and the elderly.

The Director of Human Rights, Cecilia Mirovic, participated for Argentina, accompanied by officials from that directorate and the Director for North America, Julio César Mercado. For his part, the Canadian delegation was headed by Executive Director of the Canadian Division for Human Rights and Indigenous Affairs, Jeffrey Marder, who was accompanied by officials from the Canadian Embassy.

The next edition of this consultative meeting will be held in Ottawa in 2024.
