In D&D, Darkvision allows characters to see in the dark, though not all races have it, and some are better at it than others. Drow Elves have excellent ability, because they have spent thousands of years in the Underdark, so they can easily see in the dark.
A player with a Tav Drow can easily ignore the Darkvision rules since they're always active, but someone playing a Dragonborn or Half-Elf might not easily know that these powers exist, even when your party members have them.

The attention to detail that Baldur's Gate 3 has with its use of D&D rules is amazing, and the fact that a lighting system is included is incredible. Darkvision is also used very well, although players may miss it if they're not paying attention.
