The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) has confirmed the schedules for the fifth window of the 2023 World Cup qualifiers in which Venezuela will visit Canada and the Dominican Republic, sports media reported.
La Vinotinto of the Highlands, who has recorded seven wins and one loss, will face Canada (8-0) starting at 7:00 PM (9:00 PM Venezuelan time) at the Expo Center on November 10, in Edmonton, Alberta’s provincial capital.
It will be a match between the two teams with the best record in the Americas en route to the World Cup (USA draws Criollo five-a-way 7-1). In addition, the city will debut as the venue for the current playoffs having been local to Hamilton and Victoria.
Similarly, the criollos will face the Dominican Republic (5-3) at 6:00 pm (same time as in Venezuela) on November 13, at the Palacio de los Deportes in Santo Domingo.
Those led by Fernando Douro need to add at least one win in this double header to stay in the top spots in Group E. Currently, Venezuela is second only to Canada and one match above Argentina.
The FIBA World Championships will take place in the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia from 25 August to 10 September, where the top seven national teams from the Americas will qualify.
